Mobile Tower installation fraud in Bidhannagar, 12 arrested

The Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police has made a significant breakthrough by arresting 12 individuals from Kolkata in connection with a call center fraud operation. The arrests come after residents of the airport area filed complaints in April, alleging that they were contacted by individuals posing as representatives of a mobile tower installation company. 

These individuals promised the installation of a multinational company's tower on their land and proceeded to extort money by requesting various documents, including government papers, from the victims. Over several days, the complainant paid Rs 2.60 lakh to this gang. Realizing that they was being cheated, they approached Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police.

Following the complaints, the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of Nirupam Mukherjee from Rajarhat on the 9th. Through interrogation, Mukherjee revealed the existence of a larger network operating in Kolkata to ensnare victims in fraudulent schemes under the guise of tower installations. The Cyber Wing of Bidhannagar Police raided an office in the Fairly Place area under Kolkata Police jurisdiction, resulting in the apprehension of 12 individuals, including 7 women, involved in the scam.
